How to fly cheaper than Tigerair

It's easy to get flights for less than Tigerair.

With Jetstar's price guarantee you can fly Jetstar for 10% less than the cost of a Tiger Airways flight and no credit card fees. In fact it works with any airline that has a cheaper flight than Jetstar.

For local flights your competing flight needs to be within one hour and international on the same day. Oddly the likes of Fiji,New Zealand and other South Pacific destinations fall into the one hour category.

You will also receive the relevant baggage allowance if the competing flight has a free baggage allowance. I have successfully used the price match guarantee numerous times locally as well as for a trip to Fiji.

Often the matching Tiger Airway flight is not at the time you want. But don't worry if you book long in advance Jetstar usually changes their timetable. Even if it is only a ten minute schedule change they provide you with numerous alternative flights.

You can arrange for the price guarantee over the phone or using Jetstar's online chat. It has got better but be warned it is a long and tedious process and you will need to perserveer. I generally use the online chat facility as it gets around all the language issues with the telephone agents who are clearly operating offshore.

They will not match promotions which have a free flight, in other words they will not match fly one way at full price and return for free fares.

Another way to get discounted flights is to buy the entertainment book. They offer 10% off Emirates flights including sales and 5% off Virgin Australia gift vouchers. If you are a member of AIA's (the insurance comapny) Vitality program you can receive up to 50% of qantas direct flights in Economy or Premium excluding taxes.
